From one extreme to the other

Our financial opinion is difficult to gage here in Mexico. Many people think that Mexico is a 3rd world country... it is in fact the 15th richest country the world. On the road we see immense castle with views to the ocean and BMW and Toyota truck everywhere and five minutes down the road, we have to dodge chickens that are running out of homes made out of tin and bricks. Fires burning garbage outside their homes and more cloth lines then there are power lines. With all this in mind one thing remains, people are curious and very generous.

So generous in fact that during this last week we only used our tent once. Other than that night, hotels have been so cheap or people have offered us their homes. Often people ask “A donde van por la noche” (where are you gonna stay tonight?), and in the end they answer their own question... we end up in their care.

At this very moment we have been taken in by a passionate biker named Umberto that happened to own a hotel in the next town named Placita. He has been so generous with everything... he said we could put up our tent or stay in a room at a cheaper price... guess what we did!?! Tomorrow morning he is going to join us to the summit of the upcoming mountain which he bikes two to three times a week by himself. We have enough mountains to bike in this heat it’s nice to actually do one with someone who enjoys it.
