Home Sweet Home

Giving a thai massage to Simon's sister Sophie

It's harder than it looks
Well the family has left back to Quebec. Two weeks of soaking up the rays and exploring the Peninsula, Simon’s father and sister left with a big smile and a good tan.

After 4 months of biking we find ourselves in a different environment from when we left Canada. Here we are in Costa Rica on the Nicoya Peninsula in an area named Santa Teresa. 1-2 minute walk from our door step to the Pacific Ocean’s white sandy beaches, we truly can’t ask for more.

Our door step has become a place for passing travelers alike, which we can relate to. Basically, returning the favor- karma- to those who opened their homes to us when we were on the road. Almost every week we are hosting different couples, families from all four corners of the earth. From a fire breathing man from Honduras, a mother and daughter from Spain, a surfer from Japan, a couple from Quebec and of course the family from Pemberton is always welcome.

Gratitude and appreciation is always constant as we live here in Paradise. We are in continual search of lucrative means for a profitable stay here in Santa Teresa to proceed further down south in April. I find myself on the beach at times offering Thai Massage by donation, located between coconut trees facing the Pacific Ocean. A good learning play ground for Simon to gather coconuts... if he ever gets up there. The coconut trees here are as tall as 50ft-60ft; I’ll leave the coconut gathering to Simon and focus my attention on massaging.

Maybe you’re wondering what we do here to keep ourselves busy... Santa Teresa is known for the constant surfable waves, great for beginners... like Simon and I. As I look for work Simon takes advantage of the waves as much as he can. Having the advantage of skateboarding behind him, he’s starting to pick up waves already... while I am still just trying to stand on the board.

At the moment our stop here in Santa Teresa hasn’t been so lucrative which has brought up the thought that we might head up north back to Quebec after our time spend here, which will still take us one year to get back. But one thing is for sure when we leave for the next adventure we will take our time and discover more about the culture and people. We do wish to continue south but with minimal funds we have to be realist or either have the courage to continue down south and trust in faith. All we know is that no matter what we decide or faith decides this has been an amazing trip and the fact that we are only halfway is exciting.

Well ‘til next time wish us luck to find work here so we might continue our travels by bicycle down south. Or even don’t be shy to send us you credit card number... I'm sure we could find a use for it….Hee! Hee! See you all soon enough.
