December 30th 2006:

We finally made it!!!

Once again a local asking Lynne if she is married

The only shopping center in the heart of poverty in Managua, Nicaragua
Mission accomplished... We arrived December 25th at La Cruz, Costa Rica. A few months ago, what looked hopeless, even impossible… 11 000 km of biking to arrive in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica for Roguer and Chantale’s wedding before January 3rd. Well the impossible was definitely possible.

Lynne seems to like it in wheel barrels

The architecture of Nicaragua really seems to take your breath away
Without the help of our new companion Paul, there was really no way to bike 2000 km in two weeks. The exhaustion of three months of straight biking was catching up with us both. Paul is now on his way now to Columbia to meet up with his sister. Thanks once again Paul.

December 24th ,Christmas Eve was a beautiful day of mellow riding. For dinner Lynne and I found a Thai restaurant, in the heart of Granada. To be honest it was a nice change from the everyday tortillas.

Christmas day started with gift exchange with Paul… we received 3 pink water bottle racks and sunglasses to protect our eyes from mosquitoes wanting to nest in our eyes daily on the bikes. Then back on the bikes to finally enter Costa Rica!!! Realizing that were so close to Santa Teresa we parted with Paul… letting him continue his journey towards Columbia.

Think there’s anything missing here?
So once we parted, Lynne and I decided to slow things down and take our time. But all promises need to be broken. Only two days later we arrived in our new home in Santa Teresa. With only eleven km to go it was hard to justify a hotel when we were so close. So with me convincing Lynne that we could make it, we left and pedaled the last eleven km on a dirt road at night with the moon light as our savior for lighting.

Our intention is to rest a few months in Costa Rica as the winter passes in Chili and Argentina. This time we don’t have any wedding or specific date, we are going to put our initial intention into practice and take our time and meet people and stay in different place for longer periods of time. Basically learn more about the people, culture, language and let’s not forget food. We would like to be in Chili and Argentina in their summer so we explore more in the mountains.

I did promise Lynne that I would rest in Costa Rica. But as you all know I seem to be good at breaking promises. I just could help myself… my father and sister are visiting and we are in the mist of planning another bike trip along the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. I will let you know what happens later in the next post.
