October 31st, 2006:

The hill from hell

Yeah! Look, with no leg!

I really don't know when the sunsets will end
Not bad for the 31st of October. Our childhood instincts brought up the idea of costumes for ourselves and our trusty bikes with cardboard and dress up as RVs, that got dropped pretty fast since it’s about 35 degrees Celsius in the shade nowadays. The only thing we did for Halloween was bike down and climb back up the hill of hell.

At Guerroro Negro, we decided to pay ourselves the luxury of a hotel with a good hot shower-those are rare to none. Being spoiled in Canada with eating whatever is put in front of us our guard was let down. Both of us got ill in the stomach… for about 2 days every 5km you could see Simon or I run behind the cactus for some relief.

If you had the chance to read the post from Tijuana at the border of Mexico it was too easy to get in, well it’s just like a tourniquet. The customs 1000 km south stopped us, I really don’t understand.

We only wish they thought of us bikers when they built the highway. Not only that there isn’t any shoulder but that it crosses the Sierras 3 times instead of staying in the flat desert.

From Loreto we are 359 km from taking the ferry to Mazatlan to rest a little, to be in top form for the last 2500km to Costa Rica. Before arriving at La Paz for the ferry ride we have to pass by the Sierra De La Giganta… one thing's for sure, with a name like that I have the impression we'll have a few hill to climb…
