Simon Meloche Goulet

Simon Meloche
Hello, my name is Simon Meloche and I'm 22 years old. Cycling is a passion for me. Everything I do, I do it with my bike. Hell, I don't even own a bike and don't plan on having one... yet.

Here are a few of my past experiences:

2002 : My first real tour-biking experience, around 800 km. Even if my bike was stolen two weeks before the actual feat, I managed to buy an old and worn two-wheel vehicle I doubt would even deserve to be called a bike. While dragging this thing around, I think I had just about every you can possible have on a bike. The front axel folded in two, the pedal cassette broken, broken cables and that's not even mentioning the weight. Boy did I ever learned to fix a bike on this one. Here are a few sites and newspaper relating my different adventures.

2004 : Trip with two of my friends (Noreau and Rivest) on 1800 km. A roundtrip from Saint-Quentin to New-Brunswick. With 200 km a day, this trip rapidly ended up looking like a race however he he he.

2005 : In june, I was to leave to Mexico and return along the eastern coast, but my grandparents died shortly before my departure. So I changed course and headed right back to Quebec. Starting from British-Columbia, I headed back to Montreal... some 3000 km and 8 days later, I was hit by a quebecer. He was very considerate and drove me right back to Montreal. Three weeks of recovery later and I once again leave with Claudia Lemay for east-Canada. We rolled for 4000 km in order to raise money for Les Grand Brûlés.

Since it's rather difficult to talk about myself, I'll have a few other people do it for me:

My sister Sophie :

Simon Meloche, the most important man of my life. The best brother, friend and the person I trust the most. Why is he so cool? Well it's a family trait of course! He's incredibly resourceful, he has a big heart, he's generous and would willingly bend himself in half if it would help anyone... he's also incredibly funny. I'm really proud of him and I know that when he has it in his mind to do something, there's nothing to stop him. I really have to thank him for always being there for me. I'm really lucky to be his sister.

My co-renter Julie :

He's Simon Meloche, a guy who loves life and sees solutions instead of seeing problems. He has a very big heart and wants more than anything to help the planet. With him, you never get bored. He always has a hundred things to do... and the worst in all this is that he always tries to do every single one of them at the same time. He's extremely courageous and has a lot of determination. He's easily the best friend I ever had and if I were to give him an award, I would give it to his imagination and his funny side. He's a great guy who has defaults as well as qualities, but when you're as great a person as he is, you can easily forgive him for his little moments of weakness.

Lynne Taillefer

My name is Lynne Taillefer, 27 years old and I'm from a small farm in Manitoba, Canada. Yup I’m a farm girl. Even to this day, I find myself living, working and sharing on farms. My cycling experiences aren’t as extensive as Simons’... actually I don’t have any. The only experience I have is from my banana seat bike when I was a kid and I was only allowed to go to the top of the driveway and back.

Touring by bike is a new sport for me…way of life I should say. This adventure that I have embarked on has been an amazing growing experience for me and my sore legs. For the next years I will be on my bike pedaling but when I am not on my bike I am practicing yoga-meditation, climbing, dancing, loving, writing, reading and gardening.

Six years of tree planting have helped us fund this cycling trip through America. Before this cycling trip, I was in Maui, Hawaii in school for massage for 1.5 years, also funded by tree planting money. Now I am a certified massage practitioner, which broadens my horizons to work around the world.
